What it does

  • A Skyrim SKSE plugin and a Minecraft Fabric mod talk through shared memory. Neither game is rewritten.
  • You move with Minecraft movement on Skyrim terrain, place and break blocks, and mine parts of Skyrim itself. Digging can be turned off from the pause menu.
  • Minecraft weapons hit Skyrim NPCs, with damage scaled to NPC level, and those NPCs fight back. Some Skyrim skills still train from Minecraft actions.
  • Friends who also run SkyCraft can join the Minecraft world. Each player keeps their own Skyrim.

Requirements

Skyrim
Special Edition on the Anniversary Edition runtime (1.6.x / 1.7.x). Developed and tested on 1.7.104. Not SE 1.5.97 and not VR.
SKSE64

Minecraft
A Microsoft account that owns Minecraft: Java Edition. The release bundles a portable Prism Launcher for Minecraft 26.3, Fabric, Fabric API, and the SkyCraft Fabric mod. Prism downloads Minecraft and Java.
Headroom
About 3 GB extra RAM and 1.5 GB of disk, plus a GPU that can run Minecraft 26.3.

Install steps

  1. Download the SkyCraft zip from the project's GitHub releases and install it with Mod Organizer 2 or Vortex, the same way you install any SKSE plugin. This site does not host that file.
  2. Start Skyrim through SKSE. The first launch unpacks Minecraft to %LOCALAPPDATA%\SkyCraft and opens a Prism Launcher window. Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft: Java Edition, then return to Skyrim.
  3. Wait until Skyrim's corner messages say Minecraft is ready. After that, Minecraft starts and quits with Skyrim, with no window and no sound.
  4. The README strongly recommends Alternate Start - Live Another Life, or a save made after Helgen. The cart ride and Helgen are heavily scripted and can leave you stuck.
  5. Back up your saves before you play. The project describes itself as early and experimental.

Before you touch a save

  • Skyrim's inventory, magic, shouts, and perks cannot be opened while Minecraft is driving the player.
  • Minecraft hits NPCs, not Skyrim objects such as the web in Bleak Falls Barrow. There is no in-game switch back to plain Skyrim yet.
  • All interiors share one Minecraft world, so blocks can show up in another interior at the same coordinates.
  • Camera mods such as Improved Camera SE, SmoothCam, and True Directional Movement conflict.
