2010 Rust Rewrite Mashup

A Windows build that runs MW2 multiplayer, optional Skate 3 physics, and a generated Minecraft world on IW4L, a from-scratch Rust rewrite of MW2. You need your own MW2. You do not need to own Minecraft.

What it does

  • MW2 multiplayer maps, guns, killstreaks, and HUD run on IW4L.
  • Press J on a map to drop onto a board driven by Skate 3 physics, tricks, and grinds, if you pointed the launcher at your own Skate 3 files.
  • A Minecraft tab loads an endless Minecraft 26.3 world generated by MinecraftOSS. You fight through it with MW2 guns, break blocks, and use a Minecraft inventory restyled like MW2.

  • MakeUseOf (29 September 2026) reports that creator Chasm described the project as largely vibe-coded, with Claude used for pieces such as the MW2-styled inventory and Opus 5.5 used for optimization passes.

Requirements

Modern Warfare 2
The 2009 game. The README says it was only tested with the Steam version.
Skate 3 (optional)
Xbox 360 Skate 3, as an extracted default.xex with its data folder, plus a controller. Without it, skating stays off and the rest still runs. This site does not host those files or explain how to rip a disc.
Minecraft files
You do not need Minecraft installed or purchased. The first launch downloads Minecraft 26.3 textures, sounds, and world data from Mojang (about 125 MB) using curl, which ships with Windows 10 and 11.

Install steps

  1. Download the release zip from the project's GitHub releases and extract it somewhere you can write to, not Program Files. Or build it from the repo using docs/BUILD.md. This site does not host the zip.
  2. Double-click iw4l.exe and confirm your MW2 folder.
  3. When it asks about Skate 3, choose Yes and select your own default.xex, or No to play without skating.
  4. For the Minecraft world, open Create Game, pick the Minecraft tab, and load the map named overworld. You can also run Minecraft World.bat or start with the map argument documented in the README.
  5. The README lists a known issue: the skateboard is invisible on some maps.

Before you touch a save

  • This is a separate program that reads your MW2 install. It is not an official Infinity Ward or Activision product.
  • Bring your own games. The repository says it does not ship MW2, Skate 3, or Minecraft assets.
  • Skate 3 mode needs files from a copy you own. Do not download someone else's game files.
